Re: Introduction
Hi JL,
I think you really hit the nail on the head. The whole idea of this is there isn't a set in stone definition of what femme means. It's malleable and means different things to different people.
We all have our perspective. The Finding our Femme Voices was really awesome for me, because as a fat transwoman I've always felt that space and that word were denied me, but I realized how untrue that was.
Oh yeah introduction:
Name: Abby
Place: Brooklyn, by way of a little town in South Georgia.
How am I femme: I've struggled a lot with this because I'm trans and being really femme is different for me. It's more complicated than if I were cis. But yes I'm femme. Trans femme, fat femme, and geek femme.
Pets: I had a wonderful cat named Tenacious C. But when I moved to NYC I had to leave him behind.
Favorite Singer: Neko Case
Tooth brush color: purple

Re: Introduction
Hi hi!
Name: Rita
Location: Philadelphia, PA (Bucks County, for those who know the area)
Gender Identity: Female
Sexuality: Lesbian
Trans/Cis: Trans
Femme Identity: Geek Femme seems to fit, I think. But I should note some thoughts I have on the whole "femme" concept. I consider myself femme because I'm aware that's how others most often perceive me. To my mind, "femme" is not so much a claimable internal identity as an external construct of perception. I simply express the unlabeled individual within, try to be as true as possible to myself. And in practice, that expression is most often perceived by others as femme.
Zodiac Sign: Virgo (Also to a T!!)
Pets: a 3-yr-old iguana named Isabel ("Izzy")
Favorite Movie: The Big Lebowski
Toothbrush color: Green

Re: Introduction
Hopefully soon we'll get more people showing up. There were around 25 people that signed the email list. Some of them I wasn't really able to read very well.
Feel free to tell anyone and everyone about this board. No actually please tell anyone and everyone about this board.

Re: Introduction
Hi all. I'll be honest, I don't know how much time I'll have to lurk the forums, and I'm so happy these were started! I'll be certain to pass around the link.
My quick intro:
Name: JCT
Location: Maine, by way of Alaska (and every other state but HI)
Gender Identity: Femme
Sexuality: PolyQueer
Femme Identity: I identify as a high femme, by way of a variety of expressions of self. How I do high femme doesn't often mesh into other folks understanding of it, which is fine by me.
Partner: I'm a non-monogamous person in a committed (married) relationship to a trans-fag man. My additional partnerships run the gambit, with a variety of identities being represented therein.

Re: Introduction
Hi to both you Rita and Jct,
I just wanted to thank you for joining this board. We're getting off to a little slower start, than I imagined in my fevered dreams of Femme power and solidarity when I sent out the initial message asking people to join because it is a great idea.
I'm going to some work promoting the board in the next week. Wish me luck.
Best,
Abby
